Membership:  Katrina has lived in Bend for 8 years. She started belly
dance lessons 4 years ago after meeting Sahara and hearing
her passion for the dance form. She’s
tried several different classes and
teachers, f
inding that each style of belly dance has a beauty all its own.

Co-chair:  Yalda moved to Bend in 1989, and considers it the best thing she
ever did. She skis, canoes, hikes, and takes care of three cats. Dance has
become an important part of Yalda's life, adding beauty, confidence and
wonderful friends.

Librarian: Esther originally began dancing back in the late 80’s to work
on upper body control and isolations to improve her dressage seat. When
the husband came along, horses and dance went bye-bye. Once husband
became wasband in 2008, she started again with Jerusha and now studies
with Sahara as well. She dances because she loves it!

Webmaster:  Dave plays doumbek, riq, djembe, cajon, didgeridoo
and Native American flute. He enjoys shooting photos and video, and
is a blogger and aspiring novelist. He likes to hike with his wife Connie
(a belly dancer), and lives out in the high boonies beyond Sunriver. His
day job is programming computers in C++.

Newsletter Layout: Nils is Yalda’s husband and a belly dance fan (he’s seen

Newsletter:  Rasha, a founding member of High Desert Bellydance Guild, began
belly dancing through a COCC class with Maya in 1996. Nine years later, she began
teaching classes herself, including teaching younger students through Bend Parks
and Rec. She enjoys dancing for little girls’ birthdays, spending time with her two
children, doing Hawaiian quilting, and exploring the beautiful High Desert landscape.

Co-chair:  Leia is a second generation bellydancer from Big Sky Montana. She's
danced under the name Sitris, but now prefers to dance under her given name.
Leia began bellydancing at 14 and has dabbled in many other forms of movement
art including Ballet, Hip Hop, African, Jazz, Yoga, Tai Chi and Fire Dancing. She
enjoys living the good life with her husband, daughter, three dogs and four cats.

Treasurer:  Connie (Topaz) takes lessons in cabaret and tribal style dance, and is
a member of Zweena's new troupe, South County Hipsters. Connie moved to
Sunriver in 2006 and began belly dancing a year later. She loves to hike, cook and
read. Her love for dance started when she was a teen and discovered international
folk dance. She believes that dancing keeps her young.

Secretary: Yavonna was introduced to belly dance in 1995 with Maya’s class.
She’s studied a variety of methods in Bend, including folkloric dance with
Audrey
Adams, cabaret with Sahara, and tribal with members of the Bijou
Project. She
enjoys learning about, listening and dancing to world music,
especially in the
acoustic mode with authentic instruments.
